Foundation Year The course will provide you with the requisite science knowledge, enhance your study skills and give you an introduction to the employability skills required by health professionals. The Health Foundation Year is a well established and successful course which offers progression onto the full range of health degrees at Keele. The Health Foundation Year offers an opportunity for students to enter a degree course in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who do not meet the necessary criteria for direct entry. This is often because they have not studied the subjects required or because they have gained non-traditional qualifications. The programme of modules is tailored to the student’s chosen degree route.
Children's Nursing After you have completed the Health Foundation Year, you could progress on to the Nursing and Midwifery Council approved Children's Nursing course which focuses on developing children’s nurses who are inquisitive, clinically astute, intelligently adaptable, and able to respond to the current and future needs of children and young people. You will learn how to put children, young people and their families at the centre of your care. Our children’s nursing degree adopts an innovative curriculum model integrating theory and practice elements, which upon successful completion; contribute to admission to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Register.
A variety of teaching and learning strategies are used throughout the programme and self-directed study is encouraged to promote independent learning and the development of lifelong learning skills. The development of clinical skills is an integral part of the programme and is supported in practice placements by qualified mentors and in the excellent clinical skills laboratories by experienced lecturers. The programme also encompasses an innovative assessment strategy and student support is taken seriously with each student being allocated a personal tutor and having access to a variety of academic and pastoral advice services. Alongside these services a peer mentoring system is employed in order to support you through the children’s nursing degree.
