About this course

BSc Web Design and Development blends technical and creative skills to prepare you for a career in web development.

You’ll be set authentic assessments, meaning that your projects, tasks and exercises will replicate the working world of web design, ensuring that you are fully prepared for life after graduation.

Between Years 2 and 3, you can also opt for a professional placement year, meaning you can apply for a placement and gain valuable real-world experience in web design.

Skills

Our BSc Web Design and Development blends technical and creative skills into one package, teaching you software development and web design skills. In your first year, you will develop programming skills and the ability to work with existing data. Additionally, you will gain a critical understanding of digital media and skills in image editing and developing website prototypes.

Throughout the degree, you will continue to hone software development and data analysis skills. You will also understand what makes a positive, engaging and impactful website or mobile app for users.

After the first year, you can take optional modules based on your career ambitions, such as strategic digital communication, digital gaming, animation and creativity, project management and digital storytelling. You will also learn core cyber security skills related to organisational resilience.

We embed employability in computing programmes throughout the curriculum, focusing on project-based assessments that simulate real-life scenarios. Our collaborative approach, team working modules, and Final Year Project demonstrate our project-based approach to learning.

About University of Roehampton

The University of Roehampton is a government funded university in the London Borough of Wandsworth. The university began its existence as a women’s teacher training college, and only much later in 2004 became an officially recognised university. Roehampton is made up of four distinct colleges: Digby Stuart College, Froebel College, Southlands College and Whitelands College.
