Accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, our Chemistry degree integrates the core branches of organic, physical and inorganic chemistry in a package that meets the needs of employers for highly-skilled chemists. You will also gain experience in sustainable chemistry, a vital area of the modern chemicals industry, known as ‘green’ chemistry.
Throughout your studies, you will develop strong laboratory skills. As a chemistry student, you will spend lots of time in our advanced Bodmer laboratories. These well-equipped, purpose-built facilities, ensure your learning remains on the cutting-edge of innovation and discovery. The labs host industry-standard instrumentation, including cell culture facilities, histology specimen preparation station, fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy.
We pride ourselves on including research-led teaching in your learning. Your academic course team is part of a scientific community exploring trending fields of nanotechnology, drug design and repurposing, cancer and antimicrobial research, analytical chemistry and molecular modelling.
Get closer to industry
During your studies, you will have the opportunity to complete a placement year between years two and three, which is arranged with our support. Recent students have completed placements at AstraZeneca, Kidscan and the Cancer Research UK Manchester institute.
