Course Description

Study global views on ancient, medieval and modern history with this joint honours ancient history and history degree. Learn how ancient civilisations inspired modern society and examine historical empires and cultures. You can also study literary transformations to develop an understanding of past societies.

You'll look at the different ways historians have approached the past, and study different periods in ancient and modern history. You'll cover the development of historical debates, ways of imagining the past, and topics ranging from ancient history to the war on terror.

Studying Ancient History and History at Southampton affords you the chance to grapple with and gain an insight into global perspectives on ancient, medieval and modern History in a highly successful research environment. You could also explore learning Latin or Ancient Greek.

Our digital humanities facilities will allow you to study and research through cutting-edge technology, such as virtual reality, 3D scanners and printers, and a 360 degree fully immersive audio-visual centre. Supported by an expert team, these technologies will enable you to start making and exploring in new and immersive ways.

On this course you will learn through a range of activities that may include lectures, classes and tutorials, coursework, individual and group projects, and independent learning (studying on your own).
