Course Description
Biochemistry answers the ultimate questions about how living organisms work.
Your four-year degree programme will provide you with in-depth training to investigate modern biochemistry at the forefront of breakthroughs in drug discoveries, biotechnology and forensic science. You will be equipped with the skills required to play an integral part in future scientific development.
You will be based at the heart of our green Highfield Campus in our multi-million pound Institute for Life Sciences building and you will explore how modern molecular bioscience approaches can solve key challenges in cell biology, pathology, pharmacology, physiology and genetics.
We will offer you a broad variety of options, with an opportunity to take a year in employment for those who want to gain experience in an industrial setting.
You will gain key laboratory skills throughout your degree and in your final year, and have the opportunity to work alongside one of our leading research groups completing an individual research project in an area of your choice, including molecular and cellular biology, neuroscience, structural biology or plant biochemistry.

Where an applicant is taking the EPQ in a relevant subject this might be considered alongside other Level 3 qualifications and may attract an alternative offer in addition to the standard offer. If you are taking A Levels, this would be BBB-ABB at A Level (preferably including a foreign language) and grade A in the EPQ.
31-30 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
We consider the National Foundation Diploma for entry, preferably in a subject relevant to this course. Entry requirements are based on achievement of the full National Foundation Diploma with a Distinction grade, PLUS one A-level at Grade A in an essay-based arts, humanities or social science subject, PLUS an EPQ or AS at Grade B.
