Course Description

This one-year full-time course is integrated with a further four-year undergraduate degree, and will equip you with the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to successfully meet the challenges of our MEng Computer Science degree.

It is aimed at students who are highly motivated but did not choose the A level subjects required for direct entry to their chosen degree, are studying a BTEC, are an international or a mature student. Successful completion of this Foundation Year guarantees progression to one of seventeen subject areas, including Computer Science.

You will study full time through a combination of lectures, workshops, tutorials, and independent study, with three hours of laboratory practical work each week.

You will learn the core principles of mathematics, mechanical and physical science, and electricity and electronics.

You will undertake laboratory work and a variety of assignments to develop your critical thinking and problem solving and will receive full support and feedback from subject tutors to progress your academic development.

Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the further learning academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.

Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Grade combinations between 112 - 128 points considered when combined with other Level 3 qualifications including AS and Extended Project to achieve 112 - 128 points. (Subject grades achieved at AS level and then taken at A2 do not count).

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate: D plus AB in two A Levels to include English. Preferred:- Performing Arts, Art & Design, Digital Film and Video Production,Business IT, Applied Science,Sport, Sport and Exercise Science

Combined with other level 3 qualifications to achieve 112 - 128 tariff points.

The Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate will be accepted in lieu of one A Level at the A Level grades specified, excluding any subject specific requirements.

If Mathematics is not taken beyond GCSE, a grade 7, (or A) in GCSE Mathematics, or Core Mathematics grade B is essential

Applicants must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for mathematics and may be required to take our own mathematics test. Some applicants may also be invited to attend an interview.
