Ranked in the world’s top 40 and 8th in the UK for Statistics and Operational Research (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021), this degree will give you an excellent understanding led by academics at the forefront of their fields. Southampton is also ranked 11th in the UK for Mathematics (Guardian University Guide 2021).
Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics (MORSE) is a broad, business-oriented mathematics degree. It's ideal if you're thinking of a career as a professional mathematician, researcher, statistician or economist.
Our 3-year programme will give you a foundation in the main areas of mathematics, such as:
Algebra – Calculus - Differential equations
Operational research modules will show you how to use maths to model and solve practical problems. Statistics modules explain how to analyse uncertain data.
Within economics you’ll learn how to create models of the complex interactions in an economic system.
This course will develop your abilities in:

We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). The University of Southampton values the Extended Project Qualification. Applicants taking the EPQ in addition to three A Levels may also be made an alternative offer one grade below the standard offer, conditional on an A grade in the EPQ.

About University of Southampton
The University of Southampton, often abbreviated to Soton, is a research university located in Southampton, England. Although the university was founded in 1862, it has only enjoyed full university status from 1952 onwards. The university has five campuses in total, with the main one based in the Highfield area of Southampton.
