Course Description

Supervision is available for research in: Biblical criticism and Hebrew (Old Testament wisdom literature and prophets); lamentations; Aramaic studies; comparative Semitic philology; medieval Jewish exegesis of Hebrew Bible; inter-testamental literature including Qumran Judaism; biblical theology; New Testament exegesis, theology and interpretation; social-scientific approaches to New Testament; the gospels; Jewish and Greco-Roman context to New Testament; patristic studies (Christian authors of 1st 5 centuries, history of exegesis, development of Christian doctrine); ecclesiastical history (Western Church during 1st 5 centuries, ecclesiastical history of late Middle Ages, Reformation, history of church in Scotland from 15th century, ecclesiastical history of 18th and 19th centuries); divinity (apologetics and philosophy of religion, systematic theology and Christian dogmatics, ecumenical and comparative theology); feminist theory and theology; 19th- and 20th- Century thought; practical theology and Christian ethics (individual and social ethics, medical ethics in Christian perspective, Celtic Christianity, theology and environment, hymnology); ritual studies; religion and politics; contextual theology, especially in Latin America and Africa.
