Course Description

The MA in History at the University of Suffolk is designed to take your study of history to the next level. Whatever your motives for postgraduate study - personal fulfilment, to progress in a career where the skills of a historian are needed, or for preparation for doctoral studies – our MA will provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge and stimulation - and hopefully no small amount of enjoyment too!

Our MA focusses on the modern period and explores topics at both a national and transnational level which are not only some of the most relevant and pressing of our own times, but which are also at the forefront of current historiographical enquiry: environmental change, war and conflict, sexuality and gender, violence, identity and selfhood, decolonialisation, migration and globalisation.

Our links with the heritage and education sectors provide opportunities for work-based training and delivering real-life public history projects. You will enjoy state-of-the-art teaching facilities and unparalleled access to historical archives through our partnership with the HOLD. Primary sources and the support of professional archivists are literally on the doorstep.

Finally, you will be joining a History team with a growing national reputation. The BA History at University of Suffolk was ranked 2nd in The Guardian League Table in 2019 and is consistently ranked in the top 5 for History in the Complete University Guide (often topping the poll for student satisfaction). It was awarded 100% in the National Student Survey in 2019 and has achieved this result in nine of the last ten years.
