Course Description

Mechanical engineering plays an essential role at every level in society.

Our course is for you if you’re a newly qualified or practising engineer looking to improve your expertise in specialist areas. Our MSc will enhance both your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in areas such as:

  • computational fluid dynamics
  • advanced thermofluids
  • advanced manufacturing techniques
  • dynamics of solids
  • heat transfer.

Accreditation

Accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Candidates must hold a CEng accredited BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree to comply with full CEng registration requirements.

Our goal is to ensure that every student who wants to study with us is able to regardless of financial barriers, so that we continue to attract talented and unique people. Details of our scholarships are not yet set for entry in the academic year 2024/25.
Get advice on which foundation courses are best for you to still study Advanced Mechanical Engineering, MSc, if you do not meet the minimum requirements in terms of UCAS score, A levels, or English language requirements.

You should normally have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above. Your qualification should be in engineering (mechanical or automotive), mathematics, or physics. You can also apply for this course if your qualification is in a closely related discipline where you have studied mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.

About University of Sussex

The University of Sussex is a publicly funded research university based in Falmer, Brighton. The university is surrounded by South Downs National Park, which makes it the only English university to be situated in a National Park. Sussex also formed part of the 1994 Group, a coalition of research-intensive universities in the UK which was dissolved in 2013.
