Course Description
Journalism remains a crucial part of democratic public life. This innovative, intensive MA’s global focus guides you as you learn to research and write news and features, creating and adapting news stories across platforms.
This course focuses on developing the practical skills and the critical knowledge to help you reflect on your professional practice in an international context. You’ll learn to:
- understand and debate the broader issues driving news organisations across the world
- be knowledgeable about the functions of journalism in a contemporary environment
- produce copy for a range of platforms including audio, digital and video
- critically evaluate and analyse a range of journalistic outputs and their characteristics.

Degree requirements: You should normally have an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above.
Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should be in a relevant social sciences or humanities subject. You can also apply for the course if you don’t have the academic qualifications required, but can show relevant professional/creative skills and experience.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.

About University of Sussex
The University of Sussex is a publicly funded research university based in Falmer, Brighton. The university is surrounded by South Downs National Park, which makes it the only English university to be situated in a National Park. Sussex also formed part of the 1994 Group, a coalition of research-intensive universities in the UK which was dissolved in 2013.
