Course Description

Are you fascinated by the processes that shape our natural environment? Do you want to influence the response to challenges faced by society on local, national, and global scales?

With environmental issues under scrutiny and solutions in high demand, you won’t find a better classroom than the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. One of the world’s best ‘living laboratories’, immerse yourself in the spectacular natural habitats of the Scottish Highlands, and develop key field skills on annual residential modules at locations throughout the region. Study subjects such as data collection and analysis, biodiversity, lab skills, conservation, freshwater and marine environments, climate change, science and society, sustainable energy and waste minimisation, and conservation of biodiversity. Develop your skills in problem-solving, construct scientific, ethical, and philosophical arguments, gather, analyse, and report on complex environmental data, and refine your written, verbal, numerical, and IT skills on this thoughtfully created programme. Careers in this field are varied and progressive - move into roles that interest you most, in areas and organisations such as Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, Forestry Commission, local authorities, environmental consultancy, NGOs, and charities.

Please note that UHI North Highland, UHI Outer Hebrides and UHI West Highland have changed their names to become UHI North, West and Hebrides. This will not impact on your choice of course or how and where you will study.
