Course Description
With the world facing the prospect of a climate emergency, and decision-makers grappling with how to understand and respond to the pressures on our environment and society, sustainable development, from the local to the global, has never been more essential.
Get to grips with the facts about climate change, explore the UN Sustainable Development Goals, consider potential and emerging solutions such as the Green New Deals and the transition to 'wellbeing economies', and focus on how communities, particularly those based rurally, can make a significant contribution. Gain a critical understanding of the three main pillars of sustainability (social, environmental, and economic), studying modules drawn from a range of social science disciplines, such as geography, economics, politics, sociology, and environmental studies. Develop your practical skills via research and work with communities, and benefit from collaborative discussions and activities with our diverse and highly experienced course team. Put your knowledge to good use on our ever-changing planet and be one of the voices that enables a future for the generations to come.
Please note that UHI North Highland, UHI Outer Hebrides and UHI West Highland have changed their names to become UHI North, West and Hebrides. This will not impact on your choice of course or how and where you will study.
