Course Description

Worldwide spending on the technologies and services that enable digital transformation is forecast to reach £1.8 trillion in 2023 – companies everywhere have realised they need technology to stay relevant, improve productivity and increase profitability. Innovative and practical, our degree has been designed with input from industry to respond to growing employer demands for advanced digital skills.

Modern organisations increasingly rely on digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things, Big Data, blockchain, cryptocurrencies and data analytics, to improve their business processes and provide increased value to customers. However, integrating these new technologies into existing operations can prove complex and costly – it requires a unique skillset that combines business acumen and digital competence.

Open to graduates from any subject area, this course is ideal for aspiring digital business professionals who want to enhance their skills and career prospects by becoming business oriented, but with sufficient understanding of the latest technology to envisage, plan and manage digital initiatives successfully. It will prepare you to manage digital business challenges and lead at the forefront of digital transformation.

The course draws on the University’s established expertise in the area of digital business, which includes our dedicated Centre for Digital Business Research, which conducts cutting-edge research into the theory, methods and technologies underpinning the digital transformation of modern 21st century enterprises.

Our focus is very much on experiential learning. You’ll be taught by staff with direct experience of developing a variety of digital solutions for business and commerce. Industry experts will present real-world case studies and scenarios, focusing on various aspects of digital business, such as emergent technologies, encryption theory and digital transformation. You’ll also work in groups on live projects aimed at designing digital solutions, for example, developing enterprise architectures, business process maps or prototype software applications in collaboration with industrial partners.
