Course Description

This course will help you realise your ambition of working for a public service in the civil service or education sectors as well as the more uniformed roles within the ambulance, fire, police, border force or prison services and the Army, Royal Navy and RAF. It has been developed with input from employers in the sector and provides relevant skills and knowledge to help you begin your career or gain promotion from an existing role. Our strong links with organisations in the uniformed and public services means that our students are continually engaging with the sector and have been successful in achieving their career aspirations as fire-fighters, crime analysts, 999 call handlers and detective constables to name but a few.

During your time on the course, you will study the role of society and how public services engage with its different elements, criminology, and the globalised society and the impact this has on uniformed and public services. You will also conduct your own research into the uniformed and public services, explore leadership and management techniques and current contemporary issues within the sector. Furthermore, we realise that your own health and wellbeing is important in any future employment so you will examine your own personal resilience and learn about stress management techniques.

Assessment is via a combination of written exams, practical exams and coursework, and students also spend 60 hours undertaking a work placement over the duration of the course.
