Student Opinions About Studying in Cincinnati

“Cincinnati is a great city by itself, but it’s also a nice place to live for having access to surrounding cities. Here in Cincinnati, you get the best aspects of a big city, while getting the living costs of a much smaller city.”

“I’ve lived all over the U.S but I always end up coming back to Cincinnati. It’s a city full of charm, with plenty to do throughout the year.”

“I would recommend those new to the city to try living near the Downtown area, so that they can be within walking distance of all the best shopping venues, and dining and entertainment options”

Cincinnati Key Facts for International Students

PROS

  • The average rental prices in Cincinnati are very affordable compared to many other cities, at just $1,125 for a 2-bedroom apartment. Low rent prices free up disposable income for Cincinnati locals, improving their quality of life.

  • Employment opportunities are reasonably good in this city as a number of important multinational corporations operate here, such as Procter & Gamble, Kroger, and General Electric.

  • The neighbourhood known as Over-the-Rhine is known for its great selection of restaurants and nightlife venues, as in the main hangout of young people and students in Cincinnati.

CONS

  • There is a lack of options for public transportation. The city does have a city bus system, and a streetcar, but it only has 80 stops which is not enough in such a large city. Those living out in the suburbs will definitely need access to a car if they intend to be commuting into the city on the regular. Be warned however, that street parking is extremely limited, and the parking fees in garages are very pricey.

  • Residents often joke that the weather shows all four seasons every day. The weather can change dramatically with little to no warning in Cincinnati, which means that anybody making outdoor plans should also have a plan B.
