Rankings of BIMM - British and Irish Modern Music Institute
The British and Irish Modern Music Institute is a group consisting of eight member colleges, with its locations spread mainly across the United Kingdom, and two locations in Germany. With each campus situated in a major city full of cultural activity, students can expect to have the opportunity to bring their musical abilities to real performance situations outside of the college building. In terms of staffing, BIMM only hires and works with experienced professionals in their respective industries, ensuring applicants that they’re in the best hands for moving forward in their music career.
About BIMM - British and Irish Modern Music Institute
PROS
- Small class sizes are favoured by BIMM in the majority of their locations, with most students reporting class sizes of fewer than 20 people.
- One of the most popular aspects of BIMM is their business -based approach that teaches students how to earn money with their passion for music and performance.
- Each BIMM location is situated in a popular student city, which include: London, Brighton, Dublin, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Hamburg, and Berlin.
CONS
- There is a general impression that the institute does not help you to find work, and that it fails to deliver on their promise to improve employment prospects for music professionals due to a lack of a functioning work experience programme.
- There could be more rehearsal spaces, according to students. This is particularly inconvenient for drummers and bands due to the high volumes that they unavoidably have to play at.

“Right now I’m in the middle of my second year on the college’s singer/songwriter programme, and I love how much creative freedom we’re given. Even so, I think the college needs to listen more to what students need in some cases, because if it’s a specialised school but doesn’t accommodate all of our needs then something is wrong.”
“I think that music theory is not taken seriously enough here in the academic sense, and I’d like to see them give it more importance. The most useful aspect of studying here for me has been learning how to conduct myself in business terms, and how to make a living with my music skills.”
