Rankings of Institute of Contemporary Music Performance
The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) is a specialist education provider for numerous subjects related to the world of music, located in the city of London, England. The ICMP began its existence as a place to teach guitar and bass exclusively, but has since evolved to include the education of vocals and drums, as well as the creative process of songwriting and music production in a studio setting.
About Institute of Contemporary Music Performance
PROS
- Access to some of the best educational music facilities in the country, including recording studios, live performance venues, and top of the range instruments and amplifiers, and much more. In combination with the experienced and knowledgeable professionals that ICMP hires as their teaching staff, students find themselves in the ideal environment for enhancing their musical abilities.
- An important aspect of being a musician today is learning how to market yourself and your projects, and students report that the ICMP provides exceptional music business education, teaching musicians the existing options for how to make a living with their art.
- Being located in London, students at the ICMP often perform at famous venues. This can be a valuable source of experience for musicians, and also a way to make contacts within the music industry that will be useful as they start to build their reputation and career as a professional, reliable musician.
CONS
- A significant cost factor for students to consider is that the ICMP does not provide student accommodation, and this means that most students will have to rent a private flat in London. Due to the high cost of living in this city, this may represent a challenge for some budgets. On a positive note, the institute offers a service on a particular day before the academic year begins, to help students find a place to live.
- Numerous students have expressed that the practice spaces are limited and you have to reserve them ahead of time, due to the high demand for these facilities from the rest of the students studying music.
“Both socially and academically I’ve had an unforgettable time at ICMP, and I can’t recommend it enough. Don’t miss Freshers Week under any circumstances, because the institute organises a lot of events that help you get to know your teachers and peers, and it’s a great start to the experience. Every classroom has the best equipment you could ask for, and the curriculum is intended to be as holistic as possible for teaching an independent musician how to succeed in today’s environment.”
“Studying music here was one of the best decisions I ever made, mostly due to the people I met and the quality of the teaching. I think the school could benefit from more soundproof practice rooms, because they get booked rather quickly by the students, but it’s a small complaint.”
