“I love all my teachers on my Theatre and Performance Technology programme, and I always take the chance to talk to them when I can because they always have something helpful to say. The problem is that it’s not always easy to find them, because they’re so busy, and also there are not many teachers compared to students.”

“One of my best times here was when I had the opportunity to help LIPA organise and advertise shows around the city of Liverpool. The student body is quite international, so you get to meet people from many different backgrounds.”

About Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts

PROS

  • One of the main reasons to choose LIPA is that as an institution they are continually investing funds in updating their facilities. Currently, these facilities include spaces which allow students working on technical subjects to create projects at the standard of a professional in their particular industry.
  • Liverpool is an excellent city to be a student in, due to the city’s generally low living costs, reliable public transport, and charismatic locals.
  • From the beginning of students’ courses they are expected to begin arranging performances, which can be done through the SEB (Student Events Board). Students are able to easily advertise their performances to the rest of the school, and to the general public.

CONS

  • Numerous students who have studied Music at LIPA complain that not enough time is spent studying music, and too much time is instead devoted to discussing the music business.
  • During the first year students are supposed to be taught a wide range of subjects within their discipline, to later study less subjects more specifically from the second year onwards. An issue is that many learners at LIPA feel subjects are not given equal time in the first year.
