Northumbria University was founded in 1969 in the small city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Newcastle has been named as the best UK student city in Student Hut’s league table for multiple consecutive years, based on the music festivals, nightlife, and attractions that there are for young people in the city. “Newcastle is such a friendly city and there are always things to do. Nights out are always an option, but as far as cities go it’s a fairly relaxed place. Academically, I wish there were more clarity regarding what is expected from students in assignments and exams, and the grading scheme seems to be too subjective.”

“Exams and assignments are usually jammed together which makes it quite difficult for us students to organise and plan out our own time, so it can get stressful. Despite that, I am very happy with the support received from lecturers and tutors.”

“Timetables are quite unorganised and they change too often, which has left me unorganised on a number of occasions because they tend to warn you when it’s too late to change your plans. This only happens occasionally though, as in general the experience was of a high standard.”

  • One factor that students appreciate here is the accommodation comes at various price points, from the most -affordable Claude Gibb, to the most -premium Camden Court.
  • There’s a wide range of clubs and societies, including Snow Sports, Pole Dancing, and even a club specifically for Mature students. There’s something here for everyone.

CONS

  • Students mention that all exams and assignments are given in the same time period, and this becomes stressful for them. The common opinion is that this could be organised more efficiently.
  • A common complaint is that timetables change too often, which leaves students with difficulties organising themselves.
