The University of Central Florida, part of the State University System of Florida, is a public research institution of higher education with one of the largest student bodies in the country. Its nearly 70,000 students are spread among 10 regional campuses and the main campus, which is just outside Orlando, not far from the city of Oviedo. UCF was founded in 1963 and began as a technical university for the purpose of providing support to the space programs at nearby Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center.
