The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is a publicly funded, research-intensive institution of higher education located in British Columbia, Canada. Its primary campus is found just outside of the city of Prince George, though it also has regional campuses in Quesnel, Terrace, Fort St. John, and Prince Rupert. The student population is not particularly large, approximately 3,500, but UNBC offers a complete range of degrees and diplomas and is among the top universities of its size in the country. Many of the important areas of study at UNBC are directly related to its northern latitude and the surrounding forests and rural areas and it has been given the moniker Canada’s Green University. Together with the University of British Columbia, UNBC participates in a program to train medical doctors and health professionals to work in rural areas of the province where they are in very short supply.
