Course Description

(There is a shortage of statisticians trained to postgraduate level in the UK and the employment prospects for such people remain good.) They have also provided a very good foundation for further study at PhD level.

Our current MSc programme in Statistics allows students to take one of two different MSc degrees, depending on their interests and career aspirations. There is the main programme in Statistics and one associated pathway in Financial Statistics. Each is built around a common core of five modules and then students study an additional set of three specialist modules to make a total of eight in all.

Accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) in order to progress to pharmacist pre-registration training and then to register as a pharmacist. Please note, the 5-year integrated MPharm degree programme includes pre-registration training.

Get advice on which foundation courses are best for you to still study Statistics, MSc, if you do not meet the minimum requirements in terms of UCAS score, A levels, or English language requirements.

You are expected to have a first degree with a substantial amount of mathematics including Probability and Statistics. As a minimum you should have done Calculus or Mathematical Analysis, Linear Algebra, two courses in Probability and two courses in Statistics. A Mathematical Statistics course may count as one Probability and one Statistics course depending on the syllabus. If your course is called Advanced Mathematics, then we need to know how much calculus/linear algebra it contains.
