MSc Finance and Economics explores the most advanced tools in finance and allows you to use your economics background as a springboard to increase your career options. Learn from two of the University of Warwick’s departments: Warwick Business School and the Department of Economics.

Course overview

Our MSc Finance and Economics course is ideal for you if you already have a strong grounding in economics, are highly numerate, and want to learn to apply your knowledge to finance.

You will explore the most advanced tools in finance and use your economics background as a springboard to increase your career options. You will be considering jobs in the City or in the capital markets of your own country, in areas such as asset management, corporate finance, trading, financial regulation, and economic and financial consulting and central banking.

As the anticipation of jobs being challenged by Artificial Intelligence becomes a reality, we aim to share the skills and depth of understanding needed to design, develop, and supervise these new forms of financial intelligence.

Study overseas at one of our key European business school partners as part of our Ethics, Financial Regulation and Corporate Governance module. This immersive learning experience will enable you to participate in your study of ethics and financial market regulation, with teaching in a different cultural setting.

Assessment is a mix of exams and coursework with your 6,000 word dissertation bringing all your learning together at the end. **Your dissertation** A 6,000 word dissertation gives you the opportunity to test and apply techniques and theories you have been learning and to complete an original piece of research. You will be supervised and supported by one of our academic staff or Teaching Associates from Warwick Business School or the Department of Economics and will usually submit your dissertation in early September.

Minimum requirements

A high 2:1 or first (or equivalent) achieved in a relevant subject at Undergraduate level. You will need strong mathematics and statistics or econometrics ability, you must have taken courses in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory at an intermediate level.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.
