Course Description

At the University of Bradford we've been teaching pharmacy since 1927, and are experts in preparing students for the world of clinical practice.

Our innovative and award winning degree programme, delivered predominately by Team-Based Learning (TBL), has been designed by pharmacists, educators, students and employers to ensure that you will graduate not only with necessary knowledge and skills of a pharmacy graduate, but also with the confidence, communication, team-working, and problem-solving skills needed to secure employment. Our classes simulate the workplace and you will work in small teams to solve real-world problems, many of which are brought into the classroom from pharmacy practice by our team of pharmacist teacher-practitioners.

Our unique 5-year MPharm programme has been running for over 45 years and will enable you to undertake your pre-registration training as part of the programme. This means you will leave us as a qualified pharmacist pending successful completion of the GPhC registration exam.

We also offer a 4-year programme, where you will need to complete a 1-year pre-registration period after graduation. Whichever one you choose, you can be assured that our MPharm programmes have been specially designed so that you leave us fully prepared for contemporary pharmacy practice, and with the skills and confidence to succeed and achieve your full potential in your future employment.

Placement Year

We were the first UK University to offer the 5-year practice-integrated MPharm programme which allows you to qualify as a pharmacist when you leave university and we have run this course successfully for over 40 years.

The 5-year programme embeds two separate six month periods of pre-registration experience within the course, and gives you the opportunity to experience two different aspects of pharmaceutical practice (usually hospital and community practice), thereby broadening your experience. Each six month placement is arranged and supervised by the School, and the two-placement structure brings you into contact with a wide range of patients, employers and healthcare professionals.

Professional accreditation

Entry to the profession of pharmacy is regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Both our MPharm programmes were accredited for the maximum period of six years by the GPhC in 2018.

Pharmacy at the University of Bradford is ranked 7th in the UK out of 31 Schools of Pharmacy according to the Guardian University League Table 2022, and 11th when Pharmacy and Pharmacology are combined.
