Course Description

Graduates of this course will have the knowledge, skills, values and disposition to achieve qualified teacher status (QET) and be a professional teacher, ready to work in Wales and beyond.

Core content includes:

  • An alternative location – an opportunity to experience education in its wider sense;
  • Transition – the process where practical and theoretical knowledge meet, and the transformative approach is achieved;
  • Compulsory modules – content that is co-constructed and co-provided (pedagogical and subject-related) of the program that will form the basis of undergraduate study;
  • Optional – an experience in school and supported by the University where students can choose to follow a more specialized line of inquiry in order to deepen their knowledge of the curriculum.
  • Partnership conference – the opportunity to share best practice at a conference event in order to be able to transform the partnership;
  • Qualified Teacher Status – a mandatory professional path leading to the award of qualified teacher status;
  • Developing Welsh Language Skills - a compulsory professional pathway to develop graduates' confidence and ability in speaking Welsh.

A total of 24 hours will be placed in a school to gain professional teaching experience.

Grading & Study Time

The program design provides the opportunity for assessments to be closely linked to classroom practice and draw on experience gained from personal experience. This method further establishes the links between intellectual learning and experiential learning. For example, students will have to plan, carry out, evaluate and share a research project close to practice that will directly affect learners. Wherever possible, assignments are submitted and marked electronically to facilitate timely and effective feedback.
