Course Description

The MA Bilingualism and Multilingualism is a unique postgraduate qualification through distance learning provision, which is the first of its kind in Europe. It is part of the University's mission to contribute to the exciting buzz of activities in the field of language planning and the development of bilingualism / multilingualism in Wales and internationally.

Entry Requirements / Admissions

The School's admission arrangements are supervised by the Admissions Tutor together with the Head of the School of Welsh and Bilingual Studies.

The School follows the University's guidelines regarding the necessary qualifications as set out in the Academic Quality Manual. Postgraduate students are normally expected to have obtained a first degree awarded by a recognized university or awarding body.

Normally, international students whose English language is not their mother tongue and who are applying for postgraduate courses are asked to show evidence of sufficient command of the English language to follow a course, undertake research and produce written work without significant language difficulties . Evidence of a Higher Certificate or Cambridge Proficiency, a minimum score of 6.5 from IELTS, 575 from TOEFL or 700 from TOEIC is normally expected.

After applications have been received and examined by the Head of School and Program Director, all qualified applicants will be invited for an interview. Study-at-a-distance students who are abroad are interviewed on Skype or on the phone and under the same rigorous conditions as those who are interviewed at the university.

For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.
