Student Opinions About Studying in Claremont

“I grew up in Claremont. There’s always something to do in town, either at your campus or around the city itself. There’s a fairly balanced mix of liberals and conservatives here, which I personally like. If you ever want to do a bit of hiking, you can go up Mount Baldy which is literally just next to us.”

“Claremont is a really nice neighborhood that doesn’t attract any of the crime in the other neighborhoods surrounding it for some reason. My only criticism of it as a place to live is that it’s really just a place where people live who need to commute to more metropolitan areas for work, because there’s nothing much to do in Claremont itself.”

“The options for public transport in Claremont are varied and reliable, but even so you can get away with using a bike to get around to most of your appointments, if you’re the kind of person that doesn’t mind using one.”

Claremont Key Facts for International Students

PROS

  • Residents agree that it’s fair to say Claremont is a culturally diverse place, with people from many walks of life, and from many different nations.

  • As Claremont is well-within commuting distance of Los Angeles, many consider the city to be a great place to live especially if you are looking to get into the entertainment or fashion industries.

  • The city is home to a consortium of 7 distinct colleges who all share a common library, campus police services, and health services. This approach is unique, as it combines all the resources from each college to provide a better overall experience for the student.

CONS

  • Since Claremont belongs to the state of California, it should come as no surprise that apartment rental prices are far above the national average. The average rental price for a 2-bedroom apartment is around $1,975. It’s important to note that the average price for a 1-bedroom is not significantly cheaper, so the best course of action for most people will be to share a 2-bedroom apartment with a roommate.

  • Claremont is a tiny place, so you will learn almost everything about it in a relatively short space of time after moving in. That said, it is well connected to many other interesting areas, the most obvious of which being Los Angeles.
