With a population of over 100,000, Flint is the largest city in Genesee County, Michigan. It’s located along the Flint River and was once an important city for the automotive industry. Flint has often been the subject of news articles and documentaries. The well-known left-wing documentary maker, Michael Moore was raised there and his first works are directly related to the changes brought about in the city resulting from economic decline and factory closures. More recent news stories are related to lead levels in the tap water which, after several years of public works, is said to no longer be an issue.
Flint has plenty of entertainment options so its students can have a great social life within the city; from museums, theatres and unique cultural attractions to restaurants, shops, and bars for an evening hanging out with friends. Stepping Stone Falls Park is a popular, healthy and inexpensive option for students. It has a picnic area and more than 11,000 acres of beaches, campgrounds, lakes, rivers, trails and forests.

Student Opinions About Studying in Flint
“Flint is a great city with plenty of cultural diversity among residents. It’s more affordable than other areas and there’s also a lot of things to do. My usual day out is visiting the mall and spending some time there with friends having something to eat or drink, or going to Stepping Stone Falls park where I often spend my Sundays.”
“There are many talented people in the area involved in theater and music. I've been lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the most hard-working and talented people I’ve ever met. Flint is full of natural spaces to relax and spend your time in, as well as friendly people who are usually happy to meet you.”
“I love being somewhere that has the four seasons, as I had never experienced that where I come from. It’s true the weather is usually unpredictable, but you get used to it, though. Just make sure you bring all the clothes you need!”
