The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a private research university in the city of Troy, near Albany, New York. It was founded as the Rensselaer School in 1824 and was the first English-speaking technological university in the world. The large campus on the top of a hill, overlooking the city, has a diverse student body of over 8,000, of which, 20% are international students and less than 30% come from within New York state. The main fields of research at Rensselaer are Biotechnology, Computation and Information Technology, Nanotechnology, Media & the Arts, and Energy and the Environment.

  • Rensselaer has some of the most state -of -the -art facilities in the nation. These include centers for Bioimaging, Genomics, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.
  • There are plenty of different student clubs on campus.
