Southwest Minnesota State University was founded in 1964 in Marshall, Minnesota and is one of seven public universities in the Minnesota State System. The campus is highly accessible and is equipped with a series of tunnels and enclosed walkways that connect the main buildings so students don’t have to brave the elements on snowy or cold days, though the student residences are not connected to this system of tunnels. SMSU teaches about 8,700 students each year and offers bachelor degrees as well as some masters programs in Business and Education.
