Tufts University is a private research higher education institution (HEI) located just north of Boston, Massachusetts, on a campus in between the cities of Medford and Somerville. It was founded in 1852 with the intent to create an HEI without affiliation to any one particular Christian church. At present, Tufts has 10 campuses in the Greater Boston region and one in South-East France, in the town of Talloires. Tufts emphasizes active citizenship and public service and is known for its internationalism and study abroad programs.
