Founded in 1846, the State University of New York at Buffalo is located in and around the large city of Buffalo, on Lake Erie near the Canadian border. Known by several names, University at Buffalo, SUNY Buffalo, or just UB, it enrolls over 30,000 students in 13 colleges, which makes it the largest public university in the state of New York. SUNY Buffalo started as a private medical school, and is still home to the largest state-operated medical school.
