University of New England, UNE, began as a college of the University of Sydney but became an independent institution in the 1950s. The university campus is in Armidale, inland, mid-way between Sydney and Brisbane. The UNE has a long history of online education and is Australia’s number one uni for online programmes. At the same time, UNE has an extensive residential college system, one of the largest in the country, and about half of their in-house students choose to live in one of their campus residences.
