The University of Portland is a private Catholic HEI situated on Waud’s Bluff, overlooking the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 1901 and is the only comprehensive Catholic university in the state. UP currently enrolls over 4,000 students. The university has 11 residence halls on campus and all first-year undergraduate students are required to live on campus.

- Small class sizes is one of the best aspects of the university, as it encourages more participation in class, and more access to academic feedback.
- UP’s Provost’s Initiative provides research opportunities for studentsand a chance to become involved in experiential learning.
- UP places a lot of importance on and makes a significant investment in sports culture including intramural sports, various clubs, a great athletics programme with 16 NCAA Division I teams and a state of the art Recreation and Wellness Center.
CONS
- On -campus housing is not very cosy. There is not much by way of furnishings to give it a truly comfortable feel.
- The workload can get intense at times, causing stress issues for some students. Students should stay organized from the very start, so they don’t fall behind.
