The first year is at Foundation level where you study emerging technologies, develop skills in fundamentals of computer systems development, and key topics to prepare you for higher level study. Our teaching facilities are supported by extensive networked specialist computing labs with the latest software. The course is designed with input from Google, Amazon, and Cisco, and you can elect to study for certifications from both Amazon and Cisco, as well as Microsoft.

The course will prepare you to enter graduate employment roles related to the wider area of computer science. The course follows our pathways structure, so you can choose to specialise in one of the following subjects:

Cloud Technologies

Specialise in the latest technologies from the leading providers of Cloud services globally such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft to make yourself ultra-employable and versed in current standards. Staffordshire University is a member of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy program and we have embedded the AWS Certified Solutions Architect knowledge within our course.

Internet and Web Management

Specialise in the design and development of applications using web and mobile technologies. You will learn HTML, CSS, ECMAScript/JavaScript to create interactive user experiences.  What’s more, you’ll see how current frameworks can aid with effective design for a multitude of devices and environments. You’ll learn client-side and server-side development, for use with the developing applications.

Network Computing

Specialise in secure networks and operating system security. You’ll learn about the general area of computing and then enhance this knowledge in terms of communications and forensic security technology. Additionally, we have adopted the CISCO academy programs to ensure that you get the opportunity to gain the current CISCO academy certifications, in addition to your University degree, which is highly valued by graduate recruiters in industry.

Software Development

Focus on the Software Development Lifecycle from requirements elicitation to systems integration. Plus, get a grounding in application types and software architectures including frameworks and design patterns, while becoming fluent in programming with Java, C#, Android, and Swift.

The University has extensive links with companies such as Microsoft, CISCO, Merakai, Juniper, Google, and Amazon (as examples), as well as many others. We arrange regular visits from such companies to introduce new technologies and equally to deliver guest lectures for you to attend.
