Course Description

Warwick University's Medical Biotechnology and Business Management MSc course will provide you with applied biomedical, business and management skills relevant to the operation and development of medical biotechnology industries.

Course overview

Developed out of our very successful Biotechnology, Bioprocessing and Business Management MSc, this course will provide you with knowledge and understanding of the key technical, business and societal issues relevant to the operation and development of medical biotechnology industries. It will equip you to make original and informed contributions to advance and develop these industries.

It will also develop your capability to research and analyse market needs for medical product development and propose technical strategy based on up-to-date information and leading-edge diagnostic technology.

Skills from this degree

You will gain:

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of the scientific and business factors which influence the biomedical sciences industry
  • The ability to appraise and analyse financial and business implications in a global context
  • The ability to recognise and manage the inherent problems in medical biotechnology business development, and propose solutions based on current knowledge and original thought
  • Transferable skills including team working, communicating with peers and sector specialists, organising, planning and oral presentation
  • Research skills including scientific report writing, numerical skills, logical reasoning, critical analysis and project work which includes the ability to estimate, plan, cost and monitor activities.

Assessments take place during or shortly after completion of each module and include essays, seminar presentations, poster presentations, short answer in-module tests and assessed group work. One third of your final mark will be derived from the project dissertation which is 15,000 words in length. Two thirds of your final mark will be derived from assessment of the eight core and two elective modules.

Minimum requirements

2:2 undergraduate degree (or equivalent). Candidates must have obtained at least a second class honours degree, or an equivalent qualification, in Life Sciences or Business Studies (students with a business background must be a high class student and demonstrate an interest in biological science).

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.
