Course Description

Meet the future demands of the construction industry and develop technical knowledge and skills with our accredited Master’s in Civil Engineering.

Looking to develop your professional, analytical and management skills to an advanced level? Our MSc in Civil Engineering enables graduates and engineers to build on their knowledge and specialise on individual projects. The course offers enhanced specialist knowledge in civil engineering and critical insight into broad management issues relevant to engineering and construction.

The course is run by a team of research-active staff. It is supported by world-class experimental facilities, including the largest concrete slab testing rig in Europe, geotechnical and hydraulics laboratories, and one of the largest environmental chambers in the country. Our extensive state-of-the-art laboratories provide the best possible facilities for conducting master's level research into all our civil engineering disciplines.

This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). To hold accredited qualifications for CEng registration, candidates must also hold a Bachelor (Hons) degree that has been accredited as partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

An undergraduate (honours) degree at 2:2, or above, in Civil Engineering.

Applicants without a degree that have professional and vocational experience (e.g. incorporated engineer or chartered engineer status) may be considered if they demonstrate the potential to succeed on the course.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.
