Course Description

Our Architectural Technology BSc(Hons) course provides the skills you need to become a professional architectural technologist.

The course has been developed to work alongside our Architecture, Construction Project Management and Quantity Surveying courses. This helps you develop a strong understanding of professionalism within the construction industry, with our practice-led course introducing you to aspects of technical detailing and digital design.

Why study Architectural Technology BSc(Hons)?

On this course, you’ll develop the skills to become a creative technical designer, capable of managing the progress of a construction project, whilst understanding the materials, components, structural systems, and environments behind the world’s best buildings.

You’ll acquire expertise in the latest construction digitalisation strategies, such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), and on strategies to improve value and reduce waste through Lean Construction.

You’ll be encouraged to develop skills aligned to the state of the art in industry practice, too, with an emphasis on enterprise and continuing professional development. You could have the opportunity to work in a range of architectural and construction-related areas, while becoming prepared for further study and research.

You’ll have the chance to undertake a work placement year in the UK or abroad, helping to prepare you for your future career.

Architectural Technology BSc(Hons), is part of a suite of courses that includes Quantity Surveying and Construction Project Management. You could switch to one of the other courses at the end of the first year, if your interests change.

Thanks to successful completion of this course, you may wish to explore roles within architecture and construction. Alternatively, you may pursue a further education route, focusing on your specific skills and interests across Architectural Technology.

Professional Bodies

The course is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). The University of Huddersfield was the first University to run an Architectural Technology Honours degree course to be accredited by the CIAT. The accreditation was awarded in the Accreditation Review visit took place in March 2017, and the programme was first Accredited in 1996. The course is valid for five years.

Graduates from an Accredited programme will receive full academic exemptions from the professional qualification when progressing to Chartered Architectural Technologist status.
