Course Description

Criminal Justice and Policing (MA) will explore the operation of the criminal justice system. It provides an insight into the theoretical foundations of policing together with an understanding of the criminological theories of crime.

The team delivering this programme have a wealth of experience both in a professional and academic capacity and are able to bring that experience to the classroom.

Students will gain knowledge of international developments in criminological and criminal justice research and the impact of social, political and economic factors on policing, crime and criminal justice policy.

Students will also study contemporary issues, such as cybercrime, terrorism and response policing.

Students are encouraged to take the opportunities that have been developed with a number of organisations for placements and volunteer work.

Entry Requirements / Admissions

Applications from individuals of all disciplines are encouraged as long as they hold a degree and/or professional qualifications. We also encourage applications from individuals with professional, leadership and policing experience who may be admitted onto a master's programme at the discretion of the programme director.

Applicants must be over 21 years old and possess one or more of the following:

**Recognised honours degree (minimum of a 2:2) or equivalent**

Applicants who are over 25 years old and do not meet the above criteria may be admitted to the course provided their professional experience is deemed appropriate.

Certain exemptions from taught modules may be considered and will be decided on an individual basis in accordance with UWTSD’s Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning process.
