PGCE Secondary - Geography (QTS)

Our Secondary PGCE Geography programme has been developed to ensure that PGCE students:

  • Learn to teach 11-18 secondary Geography in the UK, covering the National Curriculum, GCSE and Advanced level.
  • Become reflective, secondary school Geography teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS);
  • Underpin classroom practice with theory.
  • Develop a depth of knowledge and understanding about the geography curriculum, lesson planning, pedagogy, learning, progression, assessment, fieldwork, GIS, resources, controversial issues, values, reflective practice and professional development.
  • Use contemporary local, national and international issues and events to deliver key concepts, processes and ideas.
  • Develop a range of skills including fieldwork, enquiry, GIS, numeracy, literacy and data handling skills.

The programme involves a combination of lectures, seminars and practical experience which will provide you with a detailed understanding of how pupils learn and equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to develop as creative and innovative teachers of Geography.
